Blackhaine

Blackhaine

Blackhaine is a British contemporary artist whose radical approach to drill and noise musics and performances extends to choreography, immersive A/V installation, creative direction and scenographic for globally renowned rappers.

Originating in the static anxiety of 2020, Blackhaine’s multimedia work expresses a visceral transition from stomach-knotted dread to exhaustive, prang-out negative ecstasy.

A politics shaped by life in northern England informs his hybrid dramaturgy of voice, movement, and scenography in context of theatre of cruelty theology.

Physically demanding performances deploy durational and pressurized technique in genre-shattering, recombinant forms at once intimate and confrontational. Nihilism as honesty. The live show contains deconstructions of their existing sounds and future releases, with experimental riffs on drill, fluctuating between noise, punk, ambient, and poetic variants.

Most recently he released a series of self directed and produced music videos and soundtracks, “Freestyle” and “Be right now / We walk away” amassing 2million+ views.

Previous releases include And Salford Falls Apart and Armour part 1 & 2, featuring collaborations with Croww, Space Afrika, Blood Orange.

In 2024 he produced site-specific performances; “CONSUMER” at EXPOP (Bern), and Sonar (Barcelona).

In 2023 Blackhaine premiered the project Paith Berlin Atonal to resounding acclaim, following his 2022 co-production, with 3D designer Hannah Rose Stewart, of ‘Miasma’ at the city’s Trauma Bar art space.

Blackhaine’s unconventional versatility and methodical rigour is also characterized by his arena-scale stage direction & production for Playboi Carti’s world tour, and Kanye West’s Donda listening events, as well as the custom ‘Berg’ performance for the Paris+ Art Basel at The Pompidou Centre, (October 2023).

He has formerly presented work at Venice Biennale (2019); 'Resilient Responses' at Tate Modern as part Terra Foundation for American Art (2021); the ‘Hotel' installation/performance, Lafayette (2022).

Other noteworthy performances incl. Primavera (BCN), Dark Mofo (Tasmania), iLL Studios (Tokyo), Unsound, Club to Club (Torino), Stavanger Seccession.
